Jaideep Grewal is the Co-Founder of MentalHealthIO and a rising junior in New York, who has yearned to make mental health a more open topic for many in his community since a young age. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Jaideep felt as though it would be the optimal time to interact with others around his community and all over the world concerning mental health, with many staying at home for months on end without their close friends and family to uplift them with meaningful face-to-face conversations. Growing up in an Indian-American household, and staying in India for two months of every year until 9th grade, it became apparent to Jaideep that many of those from his background also feel the same way about how mental health is discussed in an Indian family setting. With mental health issues delegitimized and stigmatized in his community, Jaideep felt an incessant urge to reach others who knew they were in pain but could do nothing about it. MentalHealthIO’s brainchild was rooted from this urge, with its eventual goal of reaching millions of people all around the world more realistic everyday.  Jaideep is currently the junior class president of his high school’s student government, one of the junior captains in Science Olympiad, and an executive board member in the Ethics and Government Club. He also takes an active role and is a treasurer for Medical Explorers, Diversity Club, and Quiz Bowl Club at his school. He plays on his school’s badminton and table tennis teams, but in his free time you can find Jaideep playing tennis out of school, biking, or swimming (very slowly) in the nearest body of water. He would like to be a surgeon when he grows older, as well as a mental health advocate, and understands the Importance of MentalHealthIO on educating and helping others all around the world, including himself. Jaideep is extremely excited with the opportunity to reach so many people around the world and is glad to have such a hard-working and passionate team to surround him!
